In this episode, we are talking about the one big question that is going to give you the most progress in 2021.
(00:16):
[Inaudible]
(00:17):
Welcome to the expert unrivaled podcast. My name is Jan hall, your business positioning coach, and market leadership experts. And in this episode, it's all about making the biggest amount of progress in 2021, because we are coming up to the end of the year. All of the festivities I'm seeing around my house, it's literally looks like a grotto this year. I'm absolutely loving it. Just as a side note, next year, I'm getting married in November, so it's going to be a coup a Christmas wedding. And so I kind of gone a bit over the top with the decorations this year, because I'm like, well, we can just repurpose them for next year's wedding. So it's kind of given me, you know, that license to go out there and just buy every single Christmas decoration that I can possibly find. I'm trying to steer clear of the 10th soul because obviously, you know, all of the chants, but I done my best to literally create Christmas in my house.
(01:14):
And I'm, loving it at the moment, but it does bring about the whole, you know, what's happening next year. Let's go and plan. And Andy and myself have literally just booked a little rare four day retreat away, a planning retreat that we do every single year where we go away and we start thinking about what's going to be happening next year, what we're selling, what, when we're selling it or, you know, we kind of refine our goals. We already have some goals in place, obviously, but we want to refine those and really look at ways in which we can look at achieving them. And what are the biggest things that we need to be doing next year. It will just to make sure that they're realized. So, you know, I thought that I would share some of that joy.
(01:55):
And we're going to be asking a question today. That's really gonna help you to make the most progress in 2021. And you know, this topic is really close to my heart because I see this particular topic around making progress as one of the things that can really, really confuse people. You know, what action is the right action to be taking in order to make progress. And it can be a real killer of, you know, off progress if we don't harness the right action taking. And so that, that's what we're gonna be talking about today is around what, what is the right actions to be taking? And what are the actions that you have been taking, which are keeping you busy, but not actually progressive. So we're going to be discussing that today, before we do that. This is one of the last calls to action to get a call booked in with me to talk about joining elevate in its current form.
(02:54):
As of January next year, things are going to be changing up you know, still going to be absolutely jam packed for the value, but things will be changing. So if you do want to take elevate in its current situ where I will tell you, you know, quite frankly, as it stands at the moment, there is more one-to-one access to me as of January, that will be less doesn't mean there's not going to be as much value, but it does mean that things are going to be changing up in some of the accesses that have been available are going to be removed. So if you want to grab it with all of its access, as it is at the moment before any price changes before any one-to-one is revoked, then do make sure that you book a call with me now to discuss moving forward in 2021 on the current elevate plan, as it stands, that booking link is in the show notes.
(03:46):
But for those of you who are just listening and wanting to book one, right now, it's http://bit.ly/claritycallpodcast, there is absolutely zero pressure to sign up on the call. This is a call to discuss whether you're going to be the best fit for it. And it also means that you can lock in your place with all of the full access that's currently available to you for next year. So you can do that and you don't have to you know, start this, this side of Christmas, this side of Christmas, you can absolutely start in the new year, but it just means that you can lock all of that in. So back to the topic of taking the right action. Now, here's what I'm seeing first and foremost as the biggest waste of time that's happening with entrepreneurs this year as it currently stands the first one on the top of my list is this planning mode that people like to be in continually planning, continually mapping out new products, continually coming up with new ideas, you know, white boarding it all out.
(04:52):
And that's wonderful. And I love that. We all love that process, right? That creative mode. And this is something that we spoke about in a couple of podcasts ago around constantly creating new programs. And it's not just about creating new programs. It can be creating these new ways of marketing, creating new opt-ins creating new this new that. And what happens is, is that we are continuously in planning mode and never inaction mode, but it makes us feel like we're taking action. And it's fun action, because it means that we don't have to be visible with it. It means that we can stay on our own little cocoon. We can stay in our comfort zone and it's a fun place to be, but it's not in the place. That's actually going to see results because as we all know, a plan is only as good as its execution. And if we're not getting into execution mode, it's never going to work. And it's also going to keep us in that perfectionism mode as well of making sure everything's right before it goes out. And I've seen it a few times this year, where people have started to create amazing things and plan amazing things, but not actually releasing them, waiting the perfect time, the perfect moment, the perfect place where they've planned out like seven months of content before they'll actually
(06:03):
Release it. And it's
(06:06):
Not going to help you move forward. You know, it's not going to be perfect. You're never going to be fully ready to release something. There will always be a reason not to. And that's the thing you have to remember that there will always be a reason not to not to launch something, not to do it as perhaps as you don't feel like it's the right time. It's not, you know, the stars are not aligned, but they never will be. And until you start to put things out there, you never going to get it anywhere near perfect, because you can only get it to perfect the OTA as closest to perfection as we can get it by actually realizing it, putting it out there and seeing what the results are and tweaking it as you go. So you continually, continually planning is actually a way of procrastinating and stopping doing the things that you know that you should be.
(06:51):
So that's one of the things check in with yourself. Have you been doing that this year? Are you doing it right now? Do you actually need to make a pledge that in 2021 or even let's not even wait for 2021, this side of Christmas, you're actually going to start taking some action and it's not too late to do that guys, by the way, you know, it's never too late. I see people all the time. People are, you know, I do this personally, people are alive on like new year's day. You know, when, you know, some people are, you know, chilling and relaxing, they're out there selling and actually making quite a lot of profit, you know, and it's not for everybody. I'm not doing it by the way. However, you know, like my point is is that you can really leverage time. You can really leverage, you know, different times of the year when people say, you know, aren't necessarily the best times are actually the perfect times that people say, you know, selling during December, you know, the people's priority on Christmas presents.
(07:43):
That's not true, actually. December is, you know, actually most people's most lucrative years, the people who understand salespeople who want the stands, how to make money, they know that December is actually one of the most lucrative times in their business possible. So don't be fooled. Don't be fooling yourself around when the right time is when the best time is. And I'll just wait for Monday. I'll just wait for this. You know, if you've, if it's, if it's good enough getting out there and let's not be waiting, unless there's a real, genuine business, critical reason to now the next thing on my list is actually taking action in the wrong place. I see this all the time where people say, I'm being visible, I'm doing it, I'm doing the things, but actually they're not doing it to the right audience. Now I do want to say here that if you are new to being visible and new to taking action, I am all for practicing in the wrong places.
(08:39):
Genuinely. I am. I think actually sometimes these opportunities pop up where we can go in and do a talk somewhere virtually or not where we can go and speak to a group of people. And actually they're not quite the right clients for us, but actually it gives us a good place and arena to get things wrong and not to screw up the best opportunity in a lifetime. So I am all for practicing in the wrong places, but how long are you doing that for? How long have you been showing up in the wrong places? How long are you going to continually stay in those wrong places? Because you have to be honest with yourself around who your ideal clients are and are they actually there? I see this happen all the time when people you know, that they're showing up perhaps monthly, a networking meeting that they show up to and have been doing for the last two to three years.
(09:30):
But it's the same people a day. You know, every single month you speak to the same people who are not your ideal clients and who are not buying from you are not paying your bills, but because you're showing up and you're being visible in front of them, you feel like you've ticked a box. Again, you have to be honest about the action that you're taking. Is it the right kinds? Are you showing up in front of the right people? Are you, you know, yes, you're getting people asking you to go and speak in a group to a group of people, but are they relevant to you? Are they hanging out there? Is this the best, most relevant place, strategic place for you to be showing up? You've got to think about where you're showing up, how you're showing up and what you're saying to them in order to make sure you're actually going to get the results that you want to get.
(10:11):
And the other thing as well is to remember that, you know, if you're given an opportunity to go and talk somewhere, show up and be visible or an opportunity to put something in front of a group of people, you know, they might not be the most ideal, but how can you, if that's the case, how can you adapt what you're putting in front of them to be more meaningful to them so that you can sell something? So you can make the most of that opportunity regardless, you know, and I'm not saying define your business around that group of people that you've given, been given the opportunity to, but I am saying, is, is there a slight change or a slight thing aside thing that you can create that you could sell to them that, you know, it doesn't necessarily define your entire business or as your core business product, but you can sell to them.
(10:54):
So we'll say, you know, bear that in mind as well. You know, these opportunities are great. And if, if you can make that slight tweak and you do have the expertise to help these people, then it might be beneficial you know, financially to do so. But you've gotta be honest about that. If it's not, then why are you even showing up there? Have you practiced enough? If so, it's probably time to move on. And the third thing that I see people really distract themselves with really is finding new strategies. And I've actually caught a few of my clients out there share around this. And that is going okay, cool. I've done that. What next? What next, what next is rinse and repeat, you know, why are you looking for something new? And also not necessarily something like, why are you looking for something new because the last thing works, but also perhaps people are not taking the right action on the strategies that actually will get them somewhere.
(11:52):
You know, I had it this year, so I'll just change my LinkedIn profile. Yeah, that's great. And I love the fact that you want to spruce that up and make it really congruent in your messaging, but it's not necessarily going to instant instantly produce clients for you. That isn't necessarily the best strategy intact that you should be focusing on. You should be focusing on all of the things, other things that we've been speaking about doing. And so that's the other thing that I see people doing is, you know, distracting themselves with new strategies. What's next, what's new. What can we do in stat? And sometimes it's not, what can we do instead? It's how can we continue to make what we're doing better? Or how can we start to do the things that we know we should be doing? Which brings me on to the one big question that you can ask yourself now to make the most progress in 2021 and dah, dah, dah drum roll, please.
(12:40):
That question is, is what are you not doing that, you know, you should be that question is going to bring so much to light. If you can answer it, honestly, because, you know, we all know really what we should be doing, and that might not necessarily be somebody who might be screaming at me going, no, I don't know. I don't know what the right thing to do is I don't know what the right strategy is. Okay. So let's stop putting blocks in front of ourselves. That's not, let's stop making obstacles and creating problems. Let's start to be more solution focused and start to think, okay. So who can I get in touch with touch with would be able to help me define what that strategy might be, what action I should be taking, who has created the success that I want to create, who knows what they're talking about? Who can I get in touch with to help me understand what I do need to be doing? And
(13:32):
In a lot of cases, you may have already
(13:34):
Had that advice. And you might not be taking it and it might be a fear of failure. It could be the fact that you've got a fear of visibility. You've got to get really honest with yourself about what is stopping you from taking that action. We really need to get to the bottom of that because once we can get to the bottom of it, you can start to bring it to awareness and start to fix it and move forward and actually start doing the things that you know you should be doing. But you need really to bring it down. If you haven't read the book, the one thing can't remember the author, that's awful. But if you look up the one thing, it is brilliant.
(14:09):
It is all about figuring out what that one thing is.
(14:12):
You can take action on that will blow everything else out of the water. That if you just did that one thing, how far that would take you forward is just incredible. And there is always that one thing, there was always that thing that you can do that is going to really shoot that progress. Now, you know, I use the example of someone who's the mastermind, where I'm not going to mention any names here, because it's not my story to tell, but I'll give you the basic premise of this is that for a long time, that was struggling for a long time and struggling for clients, they're struggling for money, but they knew what they were doing. They knew what they were talking about and they were hugely talented. And that's the thing that we all sometimes need to remember here. Is that just because you're not making any money out of your, your trade, what you're greater doesn't necessarily mean what doesn't mean that you're not any good at what you do.
(15:03):
It just means that you haven't got good at the marketing side of things, but there is always opportunity. And where there isn't opportunity, there's opportunity to create opportunity. And this is what this person did. They knew what they were talking about. They knew what they were doing, and they had a sudden moment where they had to find that motivation and find that courage from somewhere that didn't even, they didn't even knew existed to reach out to someone hugely well-known in the industry, someone that she called pitched out of absolutely nowhere, but the timing was divine. It was perfect because this person picked up their email. They picked up their pitch and they were like, wow, we were looking for somebody like this. I would love you to be on team. I'd love you to do this. And this person went in, they started small. They started doing a few things for this person's community.
(15:56):
And now they are part of their team doing things for them as an expert and earning huge amounts of money from it and making huge amounts of money from that community that they have now are parts of, cause she's positioned herself as an expert to the person that she pitched to. And like I said, I'm being quite vague with the detail here, because like I said, it's not my story to tell, but the point is is that we have to sometimes take bold action to get where we want to go. Don't ask, don't get it. Maybe it's something like that. Is, are you preventing yourself from reaching out to particular people or are you preventing yourself from getting front of the right people? Because you're scared of rejection because you're scared of failing. We have to play the game as an entrepreneur, whether you are going to win or lose that shouldn't matter.
(16:46):
And it can't matter. You've got to play the game and if you're not playing the game, then you may as well just go home. And I know thatis really harsh. And I know that sometimes in my podcast, these can be defining for people like, you know, I've, I've, I've done these podcasts before and people have messaged and going, let you know what I've closed down my community, or I've done this, I'm taking this bold action. And I do know very well that some people will be listening to this. And they may very well just step out at this point and go, actually, I don't want to play the game, win or lose. Only want to play it if I win. And if that's you, then you may as well step down right now. And I, and I make no apology for making that statement zero apology.
(17:26):
You've got to be taking the action that is going to get you the furthest. And when you fail, you've got to get back up again. You've got to dust yourself off. You've got to keep going. You've got to step up. You've got to step up, do more, get out of your comfort zone in the face of your fears in the face of who you think you are right now, you need to start becoming the person who, you know, you can be instead of accepting the reality as it is because you can change your life in a matter of seconds, just by making bold decisions, which actually don't take that much effort. They don't take that much effort. You can change your life in a matter of seconds by taking effortless, bold action. So there we go. I'm going to leave you on that bombshell guys.
